On November 19th, 1902 Father Achille Delaere blessed the new bell in Huns Valley. “The nineteenth of November 1902 we the undersigned priest duly authorized, blessed a bell of the weight of about 390 lbs. The name of the bell is Hedwigis. Some of the sponsors were John Wasyl, Kazimerz Kasprszak, Jan Kwiatkowski, Jan Powel and others. Achille Delaire”
Around 1920 a bell tower was constructed in Mountain Road and a small bell was installed. Within a year, it had cracked and a new bell had to be purchased. Nick Wisnoski and his sons Fred and John donated the new bell before they left the community for Grimsby, Ontario.
The bell was ordered from the Cornille Harvard foundry in Villedieu, France. These same bell makers made the bells in Cooks Creek as well. The mold of the bell was made by hand with clay, horse manure and goat hair. Around the entire top of the bell there are grape vines with a wheat frieze garland underneath. The bell is covered in crosses and around the bottom are religious scenes. In the middle is the name of the bell in Cyrillic – Nykola.
The bell was blessed on September 3rd, 1922 by Father Epiphany Theodorowych.
The bell was and is still in use today and is only rung on Easter Sunday, for funerals and before mass.
